scribble to sound (2025)

workshop for kids @ Ashfield Library

scribble to sound was a fun, hands-on workshop where kids created their very own graphic scores. at the end of the workshop, all graphic scores were premiered by saxophonist Peter Leung.

Five graphic score studies by kids exploring the idea that “a line is a dot that went for a walk” (Paul Klee)

As part of the workshop, kids were invited to think about a walk or journey that might inspire their graphic score. A selection of tactile materials were provided alongside other prompts and nudges to frame their curious compositions. The three line template is a nod to Cathy Berberian’s Stripsody. Kids were overjoyed (and sometimes shocked!) by Peter Leung’s palette of sounds - he was a live playback machine and brought everyone’s creations to life!
